Microchipping

Microchips help reunite lost pets with their families. Schedule an appointment with our team.

Microchips are permanent small computer chips used to reunite you with your pet. The chips are implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. A microchip is not a tracker for your pet, once they are inserted you upload your contact information to a database. We strongly encourage you to keep your contact information updated so you can be reached if your lost pet is found by someone else.

Why should I microchip my pet?

It is impossible to predict when your pet will be out of your sight. A microchip never leaves your pet’s body. While physical ID tags can break or be removed from your pet a microchip is useful for the rest of their life without needing any repair. If a lost pet collar or ID tag is not present a humane society or veterinary clinic will always check for a microchip. Once the chip is located, your contact information can be retrieved from the pet recovery database.

Is microchipping painful?

Implanting the chip will feel like a pinch to your pet. Because microchips are so small the procedure itself is over within a few minutes and causes little to no discomfort, your pet won’t even need anesthesia.

When should I have my pet microchipped?

Most pets have microchips implanted when they are 6 to 8-weeks-old however your veterinarian can recommend a more suitable time specifically for your pet. To speak with our team about microchipping your pet, please contact us at 519-763-1082.
