Orthopedics

Giving your devoted companion a great quality of life with specialist orthopedic therapy.

Orthopedic issues affect your cherished pet’s mobility and overall quality of life. Many of the conditions they develop are due to their age, their genetics or injury. When your pet experiences orthopedic problems they are in immense pain, which is why they need prompt treatment. Our team can diagnose your pet’s problems and provide effective treatment to get them back on their feet.

What orthopedic conditions do pets suffer from?

Some pets are predisposed to certain orthopedic issues because of their species and breed. Cats are likely to have hip dysplasia, fractures and arthritis in their knees, hips, elbows and ankles. Dogs are prone to developing arthritis, cruciate ligament tears and luxating patellas.

How will I know my pet is experiencing orthopedic issues?

Your pet will communicate pain through their actions, so it’s important that as their guardian you pay attention. Some signs that may indicate an orthopedic condition are:

  • Reluctance to jump or run
  • Weight loss
  • Difficulty going up and down the stairs
  • Stiffness/limping
  • Easily aggravated when touched

If your pet is showing these signs please contact your veterinarian. Schedule an orthopedic appointment right away at 519-763-1082.

How are orthopedic issues diagnosed?

At our hospital we use digital radiology and ultrasounds to examine your pet’s bone structures. These types of diagnostics are non-invasive and give us a clear picture of their musculoskeletal system. This makes it easy to identify inflammation and broken bones.

What orthopedic treatments do you offer?

The treatment we recommend for your loyal companion depends on their diagnosis. We may recommend one or more of the following:

  1. Surgery (cruciate repairs are performed by a board-certified veterinary surgeon)
  2. Weight loss
  3. Supplements
  4. Laser Therapy
  5. Medication
