Non-invasive medical tools that help veterinarians diagnose health conditions.
At our hospital we are equipped to run different types of diagnostics in order to give your pet the treatment they need. X-rays and ultrasounds are non-invasive and pain-free procedures we use to see what’s going on inside your pet. We have a state-of-the-art digital radiology department with trained staff to perform the diagnostic imaging. For ultrasounds we refer patients to a board-certified veterinary specialist. We can schedule an ultrasound within 24 hours. If your pet is showing signs of illness or pain we are prepared to get to the root of the problem. Ultrasounds and X-rays are used when we need more information about your pet’s organs, bones and internal structures. By using these tools we get a clear picture and are able to give an accurate diagnosis. Ultrasounds and X-rays can detect different issues so our veterinarians usually perform both to rule out any illness that’s not covered by the other. X-rays can monitor and treat cancer, heart failure and pneumonia. It can also detect arthritis, gallstones and the size and shape of organs. Ultrasounds are used to detect pregnancies, cysts, tumours and examine soft tissue such as kidneys, liver, pancreas, spleen and much more.
Ultrasounds use sound waves to create images of your pet’s internal system. Our veterinary technologist will shave the area of interest and apply some gel. A wand that is connected to a monitor is waved over the shaved area. The wand sends out sound waves which echo and show images on the screen.
During X-rays a safe amount of radiation passes through your pet’s body which is absorbed by bones and dense organs. A snapshot is taken right when the light is absorbed.
Yes. The radiation used in X-rays is so small even after repeated exposure your pet won’t develop any problems. Our hospital uses digital X-rays which uses even less radiation than traditional radiology. During the procedure we also use protective gear for our patients and staff.
