Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Your cat needs vaccines to boost their immune system and prevent them from catching diseases. At Cornell Animal Hospital we offer all the veterinary vaccines required by law in Ontario. Without vaccines your cat is at risk of catching and spreading rabies, feline herpes virus and feline distemper. When should I vaccinate my cat/kitten?

We recommend kitten vaccinations begin at approximately 8-weeks-old until they are 16-weeks-old. Between 8-10-weeks-old we give kittens their FVRCP vaccine. At 11-14 weeks we administer feline leukemia and another round of FVRCP. At 16 weeks and older your kitten can have their rabies, FVRCP and feline leukemia vaccines.

How often should my adult cat be vaccinated?

Booster shots for adult cats are usually given once every 1 to 3 years. Adult cats may get vaccinated against feline distemper, rabies, FVRCP, and feline leukemia. Our team keeps records of the vaccines and dates when your pet received their shots. This helps us recommend a time frame for their boosters.

Are vaccines safe for my pet?

Yes! Vaccines are 100% safe for your pet. Every vaccine goes through various rounds of testing to ensure they are safe. They have been around for many years and have been proven to be very effective. Occasionally some pets have reactions after being vaccinated. We inform pet parents what symptoms they should look out for and provide instructions to manage them.
